Plagiarism

Perhaps, there is no direct affect on your website's ranking, however, I strongly recommend you to write your personal texts in order to be safe from the google's regulations which tend to change over the time quite rapidly.

Much of my website content is used on other sites
Most often copied word for word and with a backlink
So long as their site doesnt affect my traffic I really dont mind
Its actually very interesting to see what other people find valuable
I havent ever asked anybody to remove anything
Hope they benefit in some way
Its a big enough pond for everyone

Thanks Graybeard, this was really helpful as I've got a lot of similar content on the same site and have never considered using a canonical url tag before

This is a great question and an important topic for anyone looking to grow their rankings. From what I can tell, yes it seems the high ranking sites can get away with lots of plagiarism in their content. Lesser ranked sites need to beware though (it's not fair but life isn't fair). Best to limit repeat content to quotes from people/organisations and ensure the rest of your writing is original.

It affects but not too much. I actually don't see any problems with that as you can simply pay to the copywriters for the original articles if you are pressed for time. It will not cost you really much, but you will be on the safe side if the rules of google will change.

This is one of the most important ranking factors. Why should google promote your website if there are the same texts on another older website.

Why should google promote your website if there are the same texts on another older website.
Because you paid for a Google Ad in Google search ...
That's the real reason to list websites organically --to sell ads.

Google only promotes themselves by using your content (with your permission).

Plagiarism is considered to be something that scare plenty of people when they see your post or your articles. People of course sometimes can't see plagiarisms, nevertheless It's pretty easy to detect plagiarisms in article, when you are experience in this field. I believe that copywriters and thsoe ones who are i nthe field of seo have to understand that plagiarism are prohibitied i ncase you want to prmote your articles, your posts and something like that.
Moreover, seo specialists have to exclude all the plagiarisms in their articles, because it will be really awful when someone woudl read an article and then he will notice that everything is stealed from someone else. Plagiarisms have to be concealed.

I've found that a good general rule is to not plagiarize, but to use other articles and information sites as inspiration for what to write about... it might not be just as quick, but it's good for your soul (and possibly your SEO rankings!)
