Restarted my FB ads campaign and my cpc is sky high

Hi all, I ran a small FB ads test campaign on Saturday for an ecommerce store I own.

My cpc across the board was below $1 and my ctr was 4%.

I didn't get any conversions so I decided to split test the offer.

So after Saturday, I paused the campaign and restarted it on Monday with a new offer.

My cpc increased dramatically in the new campaign. It's now $5.

The ad is the same and the product is the same.

Why would my cost per click change?

I did a search on the Facebook ads library and there isn't any competition.

What gives?

Thanks

FB ads can be unpredictable...
When you paused the campaign and restarted it, Facebook had to relearn who’s most likely to engage. This can temporarily raise costs.
Even if the ad is the same, if your audience has seen it before, engagement might drop, leading to higher costs. Ad costs change based on competition, even if you don’t see direct competitors in the FB Ads Library. Try letting the campaign run for a bit longer to see if CPC stabilizes.

sounds like Facebook's auction system is playing a big role here. Even if there's no visible competition in the Ad Library, bidding dynamics change daily based on ad relevance, audience engagement, and overall market demand.

A few things that could be affecting your CPC:

Audience fatigue – If you're targeting the same people, they might be less responsive.
Ad history reset – Pausing and restarting can reset the learning phase, making Facebook re-optimize from scratch.
Bid fluctuations – Even without direct competition, costs can rise based on demand for similar audiences.
