SMS has broad use and while it has found a home with verification providers, it has been over extended in its uses in many markets and services. Not enough validity for marketing and this results in any services solely relying on the marketing uses generally struggle. The security services using it for verification purposes is growing at significant rates.

Maybe, the telcos get too much subscriber spam feedback and eventually they get blocked globally. A that point for marketing these sms *services* become useless to any advertisers --even with initial sms opt-ins.
