SEO That Works - Anyone can rank with hard work

I started a site about 1 year ago selling silk ties. No matter what I tried, I couldn't figure out how to rank for my main keywords.

I started reading posts in this forum. Among those, I read many by Jim Corken. I took his advice and within only 4 weeks of focused SEO work my ranking on my major keyword has moved from about 500 to the top40.

So what did I do?

1. Directory submission
Mass submitting to about 1,000 directories with targeted anchortext in the title

2. Mass Article Submission
So far I have submitted about 60 articles and I will do 30 more by the end of the month. In the signature I included 2 backlinks using anchortext that I wanted to rank for. The first link was for my major keyword to my home URL, and the second one was set as a deep link to an internal page also with keyword specific anchortext.

3. Blog Posts/Comments
I still got a long way to go on this, but I already see that google is indexing the blogs and counting the links

It has only been 4 weeks since I started this and my guess is that this is just the beginning. Ranking should improve as more links are coming in, and my existing links are maturing.

Thanks to Jim and this forum I have gotten a large step closer to make my business very sustainable. Thanks for all the advice!!!

Ranking doesn't happen on its own, but it is not a mystery. It is simple math! It takes hard work, but it is worth it! IMHO it is all about organic traffic.

Hi hamncheese,

I remember when you 1st started posting. So happy to hear about your progress and thrilled to hear that the forum and one of our pro members, Jim, were partly responsible for helping you get things moving in the right direction. You are the one that listened and took action though, so be sure to give yourself a big pat on the back too.

Congrats!

Keep it going!

Keep letting us know how you are doing!!!

Linda said it all "You are the one that listened and took action though, so be sure to give yourself a big pat on the back too." And the defining part was "and took action".

This goes to show everyone here that what the moderators and senior members here are really here to help you do better, and that it can work for you.

But, you have to apply what you read here or you will have to settle for telling the story of "the big one that got away".

Do not sit on the sidelines wishing, get in there and mix it up, this forum is full of great advice from a great group of people who get a thrill out of seeing stories like this. That is our payment.

And a huge CONGRATULATIONS to hamncheese! Keep pushing and you will soon see your dreams become a reality.

I REALLY want to echo something Jim said.

"this forum is full of great advice from a great group of people
who get a thrill out of seeing stories like this. That is our payment."

That is so true and that's all we work for... to help some of you reach success
and to hear these positive stories. That's what keeps us going!

good stuff - gets me pumped. I'm not in the SEO game much these days but i do use tools like these mentioned still and have in the past with great results. hearing this kind of good feedback makes me want to get back to building sites and doing some SEO. I just may :)

Hi Jim,

Thanks again!

I am still continuing the things I learned from you and other senior members on this forum. Now I can see that if you really want to rank, and are willing to work hard on it, then it can be done. Before I thought SEO was some sort of magic, but it is NOT. :)

Thanks again!

H

I have been getting lots of positive results from Yelp.com

also I get better SERP in Google by Geographic Targeting (in GWT) and using Google Maps.

You should be taking advantage of all the UGC's (User Generated Content sites).

You should be finding more Web Portals where you get a profile......and make sure you fill out the content on these "About Me" pages with some of that "anchor text"

Hopefully, you will start following these suggestions (above) and I will get a surprise in the mail (one of those jerry garcia ties would be just fine) --LOL

I really enjoyed your post, it will be a great experience if you acquire good results for your site by following the advices of senior members like Linda and Jim..They are very good in SEO and also their experiences and advices are a great advantage for junior members like us..Thanks for sharing and Congrats...

hamncheese,

Thanks so much for posting and congrats on your success.

It's refreshing to hear about a focussed and diligent effort, based on the advice given here, paying off. I needed to hear that kind of success story tonight.

I hope you'll share more success stores and progress, as it's appropriate.

All the Best to You, Nelle

like search engine company

anyone can be a SEO specialist, with hard work, yes. Search Engine Optimization can't be taught at school. and the process is so delicate and changing. so you must adapt the necessary changes for you to go with the flow. search new methods on how to generate more traffic. that's what a search engine company does.

It's true and he is totally correct..Every one can become a expert in SEO, all you need is just a bit learning capability and patience..That's it, to be sure you will become a SEO specialist...

Its all about hard work really. SEO takes time and continued efforts. Am glad that your ways are working better for you. May I add that social bookmarking is also good for your online visibility. I've tried all of these and it seems to be pretty working.

Yes, it is certainly true about time and a continued effort. I'm finding that I have to have about 5 outside efforts for every keyword that I want to rank for on my blog. So I'm writing a huge amount at squidoo, ezine articles, I've started blogger blogs, wordpress blogs. All focused on seo for the primary blog. The fun thing to watch is when these start to produce revenue as well. Which is something I wasn't expecting at all.

But to make a living at this, does require a huge and unrelenting effort.

Its nice to know that it can be done.

I know this might be a newbie question. But when submitting my blog to directories, I should use the words I want to target in the title?

Thanks

Last thing, I am sorry if I am posting in the wrong place. But I see that people have submitted to a large range of directories.

Do you do this manually or do you buy a program to do this?

I use a place called directory maximizer , you can search for it just as I typed it in Google.

Another good thing to do is find a list of RSS directories, since you have a blog, and submit your RSS feed, this will keep the spiders coming every time you update your blog. You still need a few articles with a blog, but not many, probably just 10 to 20 to give you a quick boost since most blogs rank well anyway.

I wish I had time to blog, it is a goldmine if you know how to make money doing it. It is longtail heaven~ ;)

Thanks for that, I will make sure that I have 10 or 20 articles before submitting.

My only worry is that I can not make it full-time with only one blog?

Do you think that this is possible?
