Can anyone please let me know the specific purpose of SUB and SUP in HTML

It's used especially for mathematical equations. If you would like to make any number to power of another you make SUP for power. If you would like to make logarithm with any base you can use SUB. Moreover even for squer meters you can use sup to make them more readable.
