Content doesn't give you domain authority. Time and quality do-follow links to your website does though..
When I was #1 for over 60 niches back in 2014 I always believed PA (page authority) was the most important, of course alongside DA.

In other words, you get the links not make them -- this way they last.

Domain authority is the measure of strength and popularity of your domain in search engines. It is measured by Moz and your domain is ranked between 0 to100 depending on the popularity and trust. DA can be improved by good content update and also by building backlinks from other relevant domains.

DA if one of the questionable metric when you are talking about site positioning. For a small one, it can be really unobjective, and i don't recommend to improve it. If you are looking for stable growth i would go for:
-Links building
-Good content
-Commenting niche related stuff to bring high quality traffic, maybe links
