Webmaster Burnout

I don't know if this is an actual event that happens to webmasters but I've personally burned out and lost my desire to do much webwork these days. It takes me a lot of motivating and pushing myself to do the simplest of tasks on my sites and there have been days when I haven't even visited some of them.

Has this ever happened to anyone else?

BTW, I know I'll come out of it eventually, it's just that I've taken some hard knocks this past year, have a To Do List that has gotten way out of control and yet the ideas keep rolling in. If I actually realize all the thoughts in my head in regards to creating new sites, I'll have a whole network of no less than 20 sites within the next few years. Is this normal?

To burn out, one would have had to be on fire in the first place. Try not to buy into that silly, "burn out" cop out. Outline your goals, write down baby steps and by sure you've crossed one or two things off your, 'to do' list once a day.

It's not a cop out d00d, it's lack of desire. I'm not suscribing to any ideology here, just outlining my current state of malaise. Essentially I've hit a wall and I'm having a bit of trouble with it.

Duke,
I had this a while back especially when my sites are not achieving what I though was their potential but like you correctly observed its a phase that usually pass, your enthusiasm will return once one of your sites start achieving good result be it in form of revenue of good SERP
Just hand in there mate :)

Oh I'm definately in for the long haul guys, no fear there, just feeling a bit "out of sorts" lately.

Thanks for the responses.

I know what you mean Duke, I had that spell with LifeSupporters in the winter but now that we're making these new connections and getting to work on stuff that I really enjoy, the enthusiasm has come back. We just have to pace ourselves, just think of what the end result will be, that's what puts a smile on my face!

Get burnd'nt out after blowing 2-3 million, recklessly. Not after you just scored your first monthly check.

Come on, guys!

No sympothy, here!

I've been where you've been.

Come on. I'm rooting for you. Get off your a*s!

lol, not looking for sympathy dumbass, just wanted to know if it was normal or not.

btw, thanks for the vote of confidence :)

I think it must be the symptom of the webmaster burnout we are experiencing, glad you and Pen are still fresh to keep Duke and I afloat :)

Hahahaha now I get the the joke

No problem. Did you like my Jack Nicholson ( A Few Good Men) inpersonation?
I don't remember that from the movie, more like "you can't handle the truth!"

BTW, I did a bunch of work and managed to leap over a few hurtles in the past few days so maybe I'm coming out of it.

Just an update:

I managed to get past a few of my biggest hurdles over the weekend and managed to get a lot of work done on two of my sites. I've also managed to start moving from my old host to the new one (finally). I can honestly say that it's the best I've felt over the past few months so maybe the glory days are back.

Thanks again for all of your comments in this topic, much appreciated!

Sincerely,

Ken

Whao, getting rid of that good for nothing old host of yours I am sure is a big wight off your shoulders, well done :)

Ya I can't wait for the day. I'm making better progress in the past few days than I have in months. I think this really was at the root of my problem. I felt like my sites were being held hostage and the only way to get control over my own property was to pay both figuratively and literally.

Its teribble that some hosting companies hold users to ransome, its alway good to read the small prints to avoid this kind of situation

My problem was that I couldn't get a working backup of my sites that included the db, I still have issue with that and it's taking forever to move the sites as I have to move one small part of the db at a time, but it is moving. This shouldn't be an issue with my new host but I have learned my lesson here.
