What is diffrent between open source cms and own coded cms

Hello,

let's talk about thing which is interested to me.

I can't understand why need to create another cms system if you can use plenty of them opensource for variuos projects?
I think that creat from scratch is harder than use something that is done already.
I understand that there is sometype projects which need develop something special.But I'm talking about standard projects, like portals, communities.

People like custom, makes them feel special. Plus if you owned google, arent you the only one who owns google's scripts? Wouldnt you feel special.
