Ok, now I'm royally confused.

Anyone know, via page properties, how to, "center" the page or have the page, "auto expand"?

Paul

Yes click on the table your working on. You may have set your table size to pixels. Instead you need to change your size from pixels to percentages. If you want a page to auto-expand regardless of users screen resolution then choose 100%.

Another great idea is to find a template from any site by viewing the source and copy/paste the code into Dreamweaver. You should be able to view the page you just copied in a browser window via the F12 commant key. If you're interested in a certain aspect of the page you copied in Dreamweaver then just click on that area. If you are sharing code code view and page view then any area you click on will have the code highlighted in the window above.

Sorry I can't remember the exact termanology for the above post as I'm writing this message from work and don't have Dreamweaver here.

If you like I can give you a step by step on simpler functions such as autostretching tables.

Thanks for the info.

I'm not working in Tables though, or so I thought I wasn't. :cry1:

I'm just trying to make a page with text on the top, text on the bottom, a logo at the top, a banner at the bottom, then some verticle text in the middle of the logo and the banner. Pretty simple stuff, I guess. I'm just not finding it that simple. But I'm not giving up this time. :up2:

Yes, I'd love some step by step tutorials. The ones in the program, as well as the book, "DW for dummies" are going right over my head, if you know what I mean.

Thanks

Paul

Paul,
What do you have problems with? If you want me or one of my guys to take a look for you please email the stuff to me and i will be pleased to fix it for you

Dreamweaver for dummies is a desktop reference guide and is useless unless you understand the basics of Studio MX.

Most of what I learned is through trial and error and copy/pasting sites that I like the design of to Dreamweaver and messing around with them. It's really the quickest, most efficient way of learning the basics quickly IMO.

"Dreamweaver for dummies is a desktop reference guide and is useless unless you understand the basics of Studio MX"

Oh, nowwwwwww you tell me :bonk:

I think I'll try your approach.

Thanks

Paul

Wow! Thanks, Duke!

I did the same thing, and now I see what you're saying. Dreamweaver is much easier.

I'm still not even to the foothills, though. :bang:

:)

Hehehehe You don't have to do this :bang: or :bonk: You should only ask and we will help you guys :)

Now you seem to be taking a liking to DW, you might look to introduce a second monitor. DW supports 2 monitors enabling you to run your "Design View" on one monitor and the "Code View" on the other.

When you run like this, you will be able to change the design view (insert, move etc) and see the HTML code change and of course Vice Versa. Appart from this being useful in designing, for those who wish to learn some degree of HTML code, it is a painless way to absorb as much or as little as suits you.

I know you can do this with the split screen facility built into DW, but it is a bit like keyhole surgery.

If you wish to know how to do yhis for less than £100 (GBP) I could explain.

"Appart from this being useful in designing, for those who wish to learn some degree of HTML code, it is a painless way to absorb as much or as little as suits you."

You're right, as it's actually, "Forcing" me to become familiar with HTML. My anti-tech stance has backed me in a corner, regarding my mini-sites. I/We make way too many pages per day/week to just NOT care to understand at least some of the basics, even using a WYSIWYG editor.

Honestly, right now, I'm feeling like a kid who just had the training wheels removed from his bike. I'm still falling, but it's getting better and better :D

Now, I really feel foolish for wasting all that time using the Yahoo software. In using that program, I would simply be a slave to one host. That's exactly what I want OUT of. :up2:

Duke, that, “Copy and Paste†idea rocked, bud.

Thanks

Paul

Glad I could help Paul :D

BTW, what you're saying about Studio MX helping with an individuals understanding of html is 110% true. The best part is, it accelerates that knowledge faster than any other medium out there IMHO.

Smeagain,

As in, "HTML" snippets?

Yes

Again though, you must realize, I am very DUMB when it comes to tech stuff. :bonk:

Paul

Yes Paul, you find it from the top of a page view Dropdowns;
-> Window -> Snippets

There are already some Folders with common HTML Code Snippets in there, but the real power comes by being able to swipe any block of Code you think might be useful and turn it into a "Snippet""

When you want to insert a Snippet, you just select it in the Snippet panel, place the curser in the Code View at the point you want it inserted and at the bottom of the Snippet panel click the "Insert Button"

This will become one of your favourite features and gives productivity a big boost.

I've finally completed one index page, indentical to one of my existing pages, using Dreamweaver MX. Unbelievable, as it seemed impossible just a week ago. I'm going to FTP to my local server in a few minutes.

As for inserting spinnets, when I try adding javascript like, "No Right Click" should I place this between the, "Body" tags or the, "Head" tags? I always assumed it should go between the, "Head" tags, but when I do this in DW, it moves my content towards the bottom, leaving a gap atop the page.

You all have been a lot of help.

Thank You

Paul

Does it really matter where you place the code?

Doesn't it still work the same regardless of where it's placed?

I've done so little messing around with it that you're already way more advanced than I am
