Thought this would be another fun topic and will probably also help others out too. It's in the title, what mistakes have you made in Affiliate marketing?

Since I'm a newbie here I don't have many, but here's one so far;

*Started my blog at Blogger instead of starting with Wordpress. Now I have to install wordpress and get everything moved over. Luckily I don't have much to move yet since I'm just starting.

Post yours too :)

No mistakes, just learning experiences, every single one.

Okay, Okay, in my affiliate days I probably bought way too man domains (300) and spread myself out trying to do to many different types of sites. Could not keep the majority updated and fresh.

But then again, that was a learning experience. In the end, I collected some good domain names and sold many for hundreds of dollars each.

I have to agree! Each Mistake is yet another learning experience. Sounds like yours also made you a lot of money! Way to turn that around into something good!

Thanks for Sharing :)

Here's one that I'm still making: Spreading myself too thin, as Ron said. My brain keeps churning out ideas faster than my body can keep up. :)

I feel you there Laura! I keep coming up with ideas too but am trying to keep everything with in my niche to make this one as good as I can.

The one I've just started up with my blog is kind of my experiment case, trying everything on it such as SEO and all of that. Trying to find what sells and what brings the most traffic.

Amy, here's a basic mistake you're still making. Your signature now looks like this:

PHP:
Talented K9 Dog Training Blog: http://talentedk9.blogspot.com/

There's a link to your blog but no anchor text in ther link so the link is not contributing all that it can in terms of search engine ranking.

A better way is to add the anchor text to the link like this:

HTML:
PHP:
< a href="http://talentedk9.blogspot.com/">Talented K9 Dog Training Blog< /a>
Note: extra spaces added after "<" above so it will display.

BBCode for forums:
PHP:
[ URL="http://talentedk9.blogspot.com/"]Talented K9 Dog Training Blog[ /URL]
Note: extra spaces added after "[" above so it will display.

Oh Thank you! I knew how to do that, but I didn't think of doing it for some reason. I will get that changed on forums right away!

Thank you :) I also figured out how to get more keywords into the url. Still can't find it when I search, though I find my posts I've been posting lol.

Haha, found a BIG Mistake I've made in my regular Training website which I am re-designing and will be adding Affiliating to. For the homepage I have a grand total of 2 Keywords... Yes, I put all of my text into a big picture for the home page. Though it looks nice.. it doesn't help me out at all! In doing a search for Talented K9 Dog Training, my old home page is actually first on the list. Unfortunately it doesn't link to anywhere and looks horrible! Wasn't even a page I actually used lol. So my big lesson for today is.. Don't put my main content into a big picture!

So many. Actually the more mistake you make the more richer you are. This due to the fact that it means you tried a lot of things!

Attempting to link build with directory listings as opposed to spreading them out using different types. Really novice and early on.

trying to rank for keywords that dont have too much visitors and also when i started i used free subdomains and not my own domain which cause me to loose few high traffic sites :(
