what is the importance of putting the links in the relevant directory?

Are you serious? It will give you more juice in SE if you are listed in relevant and related directories.

Hope this list is filtering out by categories like paid and free that offers regular listings or the like.

That is a low number. There are over 500,000 web directories out there.

Most of the directories site require reciprocal links to approve your site in there directories.

Credit where credit is due. In terms of directory lists, that is about as comprehensive as it gets. I'm sure there is something there for everyone.

Directory submission is ongoing process and we always in need of new and updated directory list so thanks for sharing the bulk directory link.

The only problem with such a massive list is it's hard to actively maintain it. There does appear to be a few broken links or 'not found' entries. Shame, but with a list of 13,000 you have still got plenty of live directories among that lot.
