Playing the SEO game is really fun (and frustrating at times ) and yes, nothing beats cashing those checks...makes those days sitting on the beach or playing golf while the cubicle corporate gerbils slave away even better.
Just wanted to find out why others are doing it? Me I think for the first time I'm doing something fun. Making a living doing something you love is the ultimate definition of success!
Building a website for an affiliate program is what I like best. I start with a great best keyword tool not google adwords. I use a keyword tool that will show me the backlinks I need to get on the first page of google. A keyword tool that will also show me a keyword that no one else is using. Find low competitive keywords. Then build the site and watch your website shoot to the top of Google, Bing or Yahoo.
My favorite part definitely has to be looking for high page rank do-follow blogs, there's just so many to choose from and they aren't at all bogged down in a quagmire of no-follow's and garbage, whats that you say? there's blood on my keyboard . . . don't worry about it, it's just my eyes : )

Attention: "role based name" email prefixes such as support, webmaster, info, contact, forum, service, affiliate, admin, traffic, partners, marketing, etc., for our member accounts are not permitted. They are acceptable for a vendor listing, but not for the member email. This is due to bulk email processors scrubbing them for delivery due to extremely high bounce rates. Please apply for membership using a personalized email prefix. Something like bob@xxxxx.com.
If we discover you signed up with a role based name we will give you only one message to change it. After 3 days your account will be removed if the email is not changed.
